History of Gambling

History of Gambling

History of gambling has been done through the ages. The first indications of gambling-related activities date back to 40,000 BC. At that time, people appeared to gamble with bones from dogs and sheep. This can be concluded from murals and images on vases depicting gods and humans gambling with animal bones.

The bones were followed centuries later by dice. The exact origin is unknown, but the first dice date back to around 5,000 BC. The card game originated around 1,100 AD. It started in China and soon expanded to surrounding countries. In the 18th century, the card game began to gain popularity and has nevertheless been restricted.

First-time History of Gambling

In the meantime, lotteries were already taking place with the Romans. In Genoa, it was customary to draw lots between the governing bodies. Every six months, 5 board members had to resign and this was determined by means of the lots.

The population was also quickly involved in it and could also win prizes with it. After that, the names were replaced by numbers and that is where the lotto was born.

Northern Europe became known for tombola lotteries in the 15th century. The lotteries were often organized for a good cause. But as the popularity grew, so did the prices. The lotteries kept getting bigger and the prizes more attractive.

Gambling in the Early 1700s

In the early 1700s, there were so many different lotteries, which sometimes caused confusion. The government wanted to put an end to this. It took a while before the lottery was fully on track. In the beginning, there were all kinds of problems with the sale of the lots.

This was not always done in a fairway. Some lots were even split up or even rented out. The Staatsloterij was therefore reorganized a number of times and there was even talk a few times about abolishing it entirely, but it never got to that point.

In 1863 the time had come and the first casino opened its doors. The first casino opened in Venice and belonged to the Italian government. The casino still exists and you can still gamble there. The casino is called Casino di Venezia.

History of Gambling in Belgium

The second casino opened its doors in Belgium in Spa. This was in 1763. Unfortunately, it did not last long, because in 1789 the Liège Revolution broke out, and soon after that gambling was banned in Belgium.

In the Netherlands, we were still under the spell of the lotteries. Individuals began to set up their own lotteries in the form of bonds and savings bonds. This was such a great success that the State Lottery almost collapsed.

After 1945, the government banned all forms of privately organized forms of gambling. The State Lottery was also more restricted. There were only a few places where you could buy the tickets. It was clear to the government that action had to be taken and in 1964 the Gambling Act was passed as a result. In addition to the State Lottery, the football toto was also given legal status.

History of Gambling: The Casino Games

There are some recommended casino games raised in the history of gambling.

1. Roulette

This form of casino originated at the fair as the so-called Wheel of Fortune. The word roulette literally means small wheel. The first real variant as we know it today originated in 1796 and was first played in Paris in France.

European roulette has its roots in Germany. In 1843 the two French brothers François and Louis Black developed the roulette game with the single 0. This became a great success as the player benefited more from this.

In the 19th century, roulette became more and more popular in Europe. In 1974 the law was therefore amended and it was possible to play roulette legally in the Netherlands.

2. Blackjack

The history and origin of Blackjack remain a bit unclear over the years. The card game itself has of course already been created just after Christ, but the stories are divided into how it has developed into Blackjack over the years. Gambling experts believe that Blackjack originated in France in the 17th century. The game was then called Vingt et Un, because 21 means.

The game quickly became popular throughout Europe and became a huge success when a French immigrant brought the game to Louisiana in 1854. The game then got its real name Blackjack and this was in the state of Nevada. The exact date is unknown. Most say this was between 1910 and 1912, but others say it wasn’t until the 1930s.

3. Slots

The inventor of the slot game had already applied for a patent in 1905. It took a while before fruit machines could be played legally.

History of gambling said this only happened in 1969 when the Gambling Act was amended. From then on, slot machines quickly spread and were soon found in cafes, snack bars, community centers, hair salons, and tobacconists.

The devices were mostly operated by private individuals and control was still a long way off. The settings were therefore often tampered with. Initially, it was also not allowed to pay out in cash when winnings, but this had to take place in a free round.

In 1986 they amended the law and it was allowed to pay out the winnings in cash. They also immediately set up the Measurement Institute to periodically check the devices. From there, many slot machines come in types and forms.

Gambling on the Internet

The history of online gambling is quite recent. Around 1994, countries such as Malta and the Cayman Islands passed the “Free Trade and Supply of Gambling Services” Act. At the time it was possible to open an internet company with this, but there was still a lack of companies that could develop software for an online casino. Don’t hesitate to play at bandarqq and earn a lot of money.

Microgaming came on the market and this was a company that could provide the software. The first casino that was active online on the internet was in 1996. Developments followed each other and soon dozens of casinos followed that also appeared on the market.

Along with that, not only card-based gambling occurred online. Many online gambling games now cover a different range of betting. Starting from sports betting, bookmaking, horse racing, and lotteries.

By 1999, there were already 700 casinos active on the internet. Shortly afterward, Gibraltar also got a license to offer games of chance and after that, the popularity among the players continued to grow.
